This workshop is intended for advanced endoscopists in gastroenterology. The course will be taught by expert endoscopists from the Texas area who will provide round-table discussions as well as live demonstrations of advanced techniques simulated on animal models. Registered attendees will be provided with case scenarios and perform them under the guidance of a faculty member.

Course objectives:

  • Understand the basic techniques and indications of esophageal, gastric and colonic ESD

  • Understand the basic techniques and indications of per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) and gastric per-oral endoscopic myotomy (G-POEM)

  • Recognize the adverse events associated with submucosal endoscopy including submucosal tunneling endoscopic resection and how to manage it

  • Understand basic techniques of suturing and tissue closures

  • Understand basic techniques of Trans- incisional Fundoplication (TIF)

The hands-on stations will focus on:

  • Endoscopic suturing techniques (simple interrupted sutures and defect closure), X tack

  • Esophageal ESD techniques

  • Gastric ESD technique with traction

  • Colonic ESD techniques with stabilizing devices

  • Esophageal and gastric per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) techniques

  • Trans- incisional Fundoplication (TIF)

On July 10, 2021 we welcomed our incoming Advanced Endoscopy fellows to the 4th Annual Texas Incoming Fellows': Intro to Endoscopy course.

Our hands-on training course held at the Baylor McNair Endoscopy Unit was attended by over 30 fellows and led by expert endoscopists from the Texas Medical Center.
